About Folkert De Boer
My background is a combination of biology, IT and Artificial Intelligence, with a strong foundation in scientific research.As an ecologist I focus on advising, improving and conducting ecological research, the analysis of ecological data and fieldwork with modern technology, in which not the technique, but the ecological question is central. With my expertise and passion for nature, I contribute to finding sustainable solutions that benefit both nature and people, with a special interest for birds. I have a PhD in Computational Biology, where I worked on evolutionary simulations and dynamic bioinformatics. I have a profound background in Artificial Intelligence and extensive experience with advanced programming in different languages(mainly in C++), with an emphasis on genetic algorithms, evolutionary programming and data analysis. After my PhD, I spent 3 months in Bulgaria and Georgia, providing me with hands-on experience in international nature conservation, ecological field work and professional raptor migration monitoring. In 2013 I joined the board of Batumi Raptor Count and from 2014-2021 I worked for Zostera (Observation.org).Now, I'm very happy that I can apply my technical background and scientific skills in the field of nature conservation.Specialties: Ornithology, Nature related IT, Theoretical Biology, Simulations and Evolutionary Modeling, Computational Biology, Raptor Migration
