Fearnley provides ionising radiation and laser safety advice as a certified Radiation Protection Adviser and Laser Protection Adviser. Under this role, Fearnley has advised clients in academic, medical, and industrial sectors; creating laser safety policies, risk assessing complex laser safety set ups, and delivering laser safety training for those becoming Laser Safety Officers, and those who need to perform laser safety calculations.These experiences have enabled Fearnley to take up a prominent radiation safety role in an NHS Trust in the North East of England.Fearnley has also conducted a number of surveys assessing exposures to broadband optical sources and electromagnetic fields, and is an experienced user of computational methods for shielding design assessment following experiences gained during a Master of Physics degree at the University of Sheffield. Fearnley has been involved in major design projects, including high energy proton beam therapy, high energy synchrotrons, cyclotron pharmaceutical generation systems and bespoke applications of radiation sources.
