PhD thesis focused on aluminium casting for aerospace application (fuel pumps)Specialised in casting of aluminium alloys and aluminium metal matrix composites. Development of a new cast Al metal matrix composites with improved thermal stability compared to the other cast aluminium alloys. Four different alloys were developed with properties of +20 % UTS, +25 % YS. • Experience with casting of lightweight materials such as aluminium and magnesium and their alloying systems. Trained in various metallurgical processes (i.e. heat treatments, fluidity).• Developed extensive knowledge of research equipment and entrusted to teach others of their use. Improvements were also suggested and made to facilitate the use of the tensile test rig.• Developed experience in industrial standards (ASTM and ISO). Monthly meetings were carried out and deadlines were respected. • Investigated and designed innovative alloys through several testing methods. These included microstructural characterisation with electron microscopy, XRF and optical microscopy. In addition, thorough methodical approach to work and excellent data analysis showcased in all lab work.

• Supervised final year student in carrying out her thesis, from experiments to write up. • Supporting her needs and time management were fundamental in enabling her to produce an outstanding thesis. • Trained the student in standard metallurgical processes: heat treatments, preparation metallurgical samples, DSC, SEM, OM.
