Proforma offers a unique experience for me. Not only do my duties include the standard Graphic Designer fare, brochures, flyers, business cards etc. I also implement client brands onto promotional items. What promotional items, you may ask? How long have you got? Pens, mugs, bags, shirts, caps, flags, banners, mousepads, golf balls, koozies, balloons, rocking chairs, the list really is endless. Each item poses numerous unique challenges such as the clients branding, fill in, legibility, colour matching, the list really is... probably only a few more things, but I only have so much space.Every once in a while I will get a chance to do some serious Graphic Design. A project where I am given creative freedom, have a meeting with the client about their hopes and expectations, and how we can exceed them. Logo design, rebranding, shirt designs have been recent successes. I love the opportunity to take an existing brand and find ways to elevate it in a way that never occurred to our clients.

An interesting albeit short lived position to which I was not well suited. The Graphic Design elements were fine, but there were a number of environmental and personal issues which lead me to seek employment elsewhere.

Create Marketing materials, either for 1st Lake as a brand or for one of the 64 apartment communities they manage. Materials include but not limited to: Brochures, marketing cards, flyers, direct mailers, print ads, billboards, web banners, flash banners, email blasts, and websites.Logo design, cartoon character creation. Photographic "enhancement" would be the official term used for another part of my role I was darn good at it too. Even after all this time I still see my work in use and that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

In working here I learned so much about the design process. I went in with little to no knowledge of screenprinting. All I knew is that I had been intrigued by the process for years, having dabbled in shirt design myself as a much younger man.In learning this process I was able to understand it's strengths and weaknesses, and in turn, understood my own. I came out of this job a stronger more confident designer and dare I say it, person.

If any job made me who I am today it’s this, I won’t go into the details, but here’s the boring stuff:Customer Service, Manage and work within a team during peak hours. Visual Merchandising, window displays and shop signage for both Arsenal and Nike. Used Adobe Illustrator to design signs and advertising for promotions and products.

Think UK was them main company but the project I was working on was for Naturally Healthier Services, Ltd. It was a highly ambitious project for its time and we had a terrific team on board. My role included Web & Graphic Design using Dreamweaver, Photoshop and HTML mostly. And Flash animation. I produced two (very) short films from scripts and voice work based around healthy lifestyle and a superhero character I made called Will Power.This was basically my breakthrough job, the company took a chance on me. I was flying high, thrilled to be in the industry, but it didn't last. It was a tough time for internet start ups and things didn't work out. I still think about what could have been, the great things we could have done... All in all it was a great start for me, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity I was allowed.
