The design engineer has a hand in every aspect of the product design. It is their job to maintain contact with the customer to ensure all requirements and appearances are as desired. They must design with manufacturing in mind and keep track and correct issues during the tool development. They also need to work with sales and purchasing department to select the most appropriate products from suppliers for their design.

Roboteam LTD is a startup robotics company that has numerous patents pending and has contracts with the Israeli Department of Defense, the US Technical Support Working Group, and leading universities. Some of my responsibilities are editing formal business documents; product research; composing grant applications; purchasing components; analyzing competitor products; and maintaining communication with business partners. Previously the coordinator of a multinational consortium to evaluate and apply for product development grants through the European Commission for a robotic solution to problems in geriatrics.
