In March 2015, I left W.R. Grace & Co. and formed a consulting firm FJ Consulting, LLC. My passion is to integrate R&D (processes, people, structure,....) with business strategy to create an effective and impactful innovation business strategy. I am familiar with various areas of technology; materials used in construction, water treatment, water soluble polymers, catalysis, polyurethanes, coatings, adhesives, sealants and others. I have extensive experience in IP/patent management, in structuring of collaborative technology programs with universities, suppliers and customers. As an executive of a large,global company taught me about leadership, business strategies, organizational integration of different cultures and being effective in a complex organization. My last position in the corporate world was VP Innovation at W.R. Grace. My main focus was establishing new growth-oriented technology programs for all business units of W.R. Grace. 2009-2012 I spent in China (Beijing) leading technology efforts in support of businesses in Asia Pacific. I have excellent reputation as an innovative and inspiring technology and business leader with an impressive track record for introducing new products. I have been responsible for the company's R&D efforts since 1997 leading a global R&D team of 200 professionals. My industry experience dates back to 1978 when I began working for this company as a research scientist. Prior to holding the positions of VP and CTO, I worked in several management positions in the area of fine chemicals, water treatment, adhesives, coatings and catalysts. My technical expertise later expanded into the areas of cement based materials, concrete admixtures, waterproofing product, membranes, fire protection materials, catalysts, chemicals, plastics and specialty chemicals. I received a PhD degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Basel, Switzerland. I am an inventor and co-inventor on 23 patents and authored several papers.
