Excited about ecology and conservation, I'm looking to sharpen my skills in conducting research and lab techniques with experts in the field. I graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Management, where I spent a year learning how to conduct experiments, get funding, and succeed in academia in an internship at the Gremer Lab at UC Davis. There, I helped my mentors collect, measure and organize plant samples from field and greenhouse experiments on the native wildflower, Streptanthus tortuosa. In my third year at UC Davis, I received the award of having my essay titled, "The Grapevine Compromise" published in Prized Writing. This cross-sectional paper connected science to the lay person by describing the natural and human history of the soon-to-be-developed hills that lay North of L.A., home to endangered burrowing owl and San Joaquin kit fox populations. I offer up possible solutions to the environmental hazards lined up for its future in this essay and discuss how groups with different agendas may perceive and ultimately benefit from a mediated compromise.
