I successfully completed a week-long training course at First Response's forensic laboratory designed for Post Graduate Digital Forensic Technicians covering a range of topics including forensics, computer hardware, networking, investigation strategies and law, including the Computer Misuse Act 1990.I imaged and investigated hard disks, set up an ELK stack server, and deployed Nuix’s Adaptive Security software and gave feedback to its developers on suggested enhancements. I also analysed AWS server logs and drew up a timeline of events, supported by screenshots and contemporaneous notes, that was used in the successful prosecution of a systems administrator who stole data and deleted virtual servers belonging to a former employer while masquerading as another employee.This complex case gave me an inspiring insight into the risks faced by corporations, the techniques and level of proof required by courts, and the workings of the legal system.
