Art Instructor And Graphic Consultant
Artist
After a selection and competition process, I was commissioned to create the designs of four window panels, later fabricated in faceted glass in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (similar to stained glass but of 1 inch thickness), installed in February 2008 at the two platforms of the elevated 231 St. subway station of the #1 line train in the Bronx, just crossing Manhattan. The series of humorous designs reflecting the neighborhood history is called "Magic Realism in Kingsbridge". Up until the early 20th century, Manhattan ended here, in Kingsbridge, hence the name, the first bridge between the two boroughs. The East River was modified then and this appendix of land (Marble Hill) became part of the Bronx.
Assistant Graphic Designer And Illustrator
During this period, also freelanced as Illustrator for Holt, Rinehart & Winston, Mary Ciuffitelli AD, NYC.Assistant to graphic designers, Dimensions & Directions, NYC.Freelance illustrator and cartoonist for The New York Times and other numerous publications.
Graphic Researcher
Between 1980-81 I conducted research in books from the XVI through XIX centuries, identifying, classifying and drawing watermarks on such historical books from the National Archives. They were then published in the book "El Papel del Papel en La Nueva Espana" by Cristina Sanchez-Bonfil, INAH, 1993.
