My experience lies in the broad fields of renewable energy, materials science, nanotechnology and electronics, with a particular interest in the processing of functional materials for semiconductor devices such as photovoltaics and light-emitting diodes, as well as printed electronics.I have made use of a range of roll-to-roll compatible and direct-write processing techniques, including inkjet printing, slot-die and blade coating, for the fabrication of high performing functional thin film devices on various rigid and flexible substrates, while also using a wide variety of active layer materials and metal nanoparticle inks. Each component layer as well as the finished devices are characterised using optical, electrical, electrochemical, topographical and performance analysis techniques. I am especially interested in process optimisation of the different materials for the purposes of upscaling, while also investigating their device performance in energy harvesting, lighting, display and sensor applications. At the same time, I am interested in the specific challenges of printed electronics, such as costly ITO replacement with fine-structure printed metal inks.
