I love applying knowledge to solve real-world problems. At the beginning of my studies, I focused on energy engineering: combining physics, chemistry, and math to build and improve systems necessary for our daily life. During this time I noticed that many of the relevant steps are not only dependent on but also highly efficiently performed using state-of-the-art software and computers. This sparked my enthusiasm for software development, so I taught myself object-oriented programming while I was writing my bachelor's thesis before pursuing a master's degree with an elevated focus on computer science.Since then I worked on small and big software development projects for various customers, e.g. building a highly flexible computation engine for the specific infrastructure at hand or contributing to a complex web application, that implements several regulatory processes in the energy market for up to thousands of intermediate customers. During one very exciting project, I implemented a web user interface including registration and customer-level control mechanisms, which led to a profit of over 95 million € for the respective stakeholders.While software development is one effective way of interacting with computers to achieve highly effective and sustainable solutions, in recent years machine learning and artificial intelligence enabled a new way of creating unique solutions due to the increased computational capacity. The new possibilities are fascinating, which is why I studied data science with a focus on deep learning and big data at Harvard University (HES/HSS) next to my project work.
