This collaborative project between Bath & North East Somerset Council and Bath Rugby Foundation uses cycling, running and rugby/out-door fitness to get people active and healthier. The project is also being supported by a media campaign provided by Bath News and Media via The Bath Chronicle and Somerset Guardian.A team of activators will deliver a range of fun, vibrant, varied, community led programmes using parks and open spaces, with my specific role being to use the world-class facilities in the area to create and conduct a cycling based program to increase participation across B&NES.

My role involved the day-to-day running of fitness assessments in the lab, as well as administrative, marketing and sales tasks. As the year progressed I also began designing personalised training programs for private clients as well as leading classes and taking more roles in the day-to-day running of the company. The majority of the clientèle were endurance athletes, particularly long distance runners, triathletes and cyclists training for events such as road races, ultramarathons and Ironmans. The key skills gained were laboratory experience due to the large number of assessments carried out and presentation and explanation skills through interaction with clients with varying levels of knowledge regarding exercise physiology. A broader understanding of working in the industry in a role such as this provides a useful contrast to the academia-led content on the course and has proved invaluable in preparing me for a career either in sport & exercise science or another field of work following my completion of the course.
