I am a senior member of the server team at York NHS Trust, covering IT services for multiple hospitals and clinics in the York/Scarborough area. I support, document, plan and manage the delivery of IT systems, infrastructure upgrades and policies - in particular as the technical lead for the organisations Linux estate.This role requires me to work closely with the Development Team and DBA's to monitor and support core business systems and development projects. In addition I participate in 3rd line support of VMware and Windows servers, maintain the server performance monitoring application (Zabbix) and am a member of the technical change advisory board.

Member of a 3rd line support team during a period of merging two Active Directory domains of several thousand users and migration of several core hospital systems. I moved into supporting the organisations RedHat and Centos Linux estate and this became the primary focus of my role.

Scarborough

Part of the technical team responsible for the day to day performance of servers and software covering multiple hospital sites. I was the IT project and support lead for the digital radiology imaging system and the Intersystems Ensemble Integration Engine which provides interfacing between multiple systems primarily using the HL7 messaging protocol. The role also involves general support of the Microsoft server/Active Directory/VMware environment and some small application development using Java 5 SE

The main duties of this position were the configuration and installation of desktop PC’s, monitors, thin client terminals, printers and peripherals. I provided application support, and advice and some user training in accordance with departmental and organisational policies and procedures. Set up and maintenance of user accounts on Microsoft Active Directory, support of legacy and ad-hoc systems. Network patch management and basic switch configuration. I led a rollout project of over 300 desktop pc’s and operating system upgrade of a further 200 and was responsible for maintaining a repository of operating system images to a controlled and documented standard.

This involved preparation of monthly divisional budget reports, quarterly returns for the Health Authority and other ad hoc reports and costing. Extensive use of financial and HR systems and spreadsheet analysis was required. I was also responsible for monitoring the status of maintenance contracts for the Trusts medical equipment, reporting on income and identifying external charges due for activity.
