Ferdinand Alvaro retired as General Counsel and Board Secretary of Jazan Integrated Gasification and Power Company, a $12 billion Joint venture of Air Products, Saudi Aramco and ACWA Power in 2024. He previously served as Regional Counsel Middle East, Egypt and Turkey at Air Products, a Fortune 500 multinational company. Mr. Alvaro devoted most of his career to counseling businesses and to the execution of complex business transactions, both as an attorney and a businessman. Before creating a successful private practice in Boston, he was Vice President, Commercial and General Counsel of BOC Process Systems, a $2 billion global division of The BOC Group. In that capacity, he led an international legal, financial and technical team that closed finance transactions, acquisitions, venture capital investments, strategic alliances, and joint ventures in the U.S., Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Rim.From 1997 to 1999, contemporaneously with his duties at BOC, Mr. Alvaro served as Chief Executive Officer and director of the Cantarell Nitrogen Company ("CNC"), a consortium of U.S., U.K., Mexican, German and Japanese companies organized to develop a $1 billion infrastructure project in Mexico. He also led a multi-sponsor CNC team that procured $623 million in limited recourse financing for CNC. Over the course of his career, Mr. Alvaro has served on the boards of directors of United States, Chilean, Colombian, Mexican, and Venezuelan companies. In 2021, he led the legal team that closed the Jazan power plant acquisition and financing that was named Project Finance International Deal of the year by PFI.His governance experience includes the boards of directors of Boston Medical Center, Eastern Bank,the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority. His community involvement includes membership in the Boston Private Industry Council, the Massachusetts Judicial Nominating Committee under Governors Romney and Patrick, the WGBH Corporate Executive Council and Founding Board of Salem Academy Charter School.He has lectured on a variety of topics at Northeastern School of Law, Boston University Graduate School of Law, Tufts School of Law and Diplomacy and the International Academic Program at Harvard University and spoken on transportation infrastructure at Le Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris.
