I am a cross-disciplinary scientist doing low carbohydrate and ketogenic diet coaching. I have more than 10 years of experience helping people regain their metabolic health to deal with weight loss, Type 2 diabetes and other conditions. User Experience Specialist - Open Microscopy Environment
OME (Open Microscopy Environment) develops open-source software and data format standards for the storage and manipulation of biological light microscopy data. A joint project between universities, research establishments and industry in Europe and the USA, OME has over 20 active researchers with strong links to the microscopy community. Funded by private and public research grants, OME has been a major force on the international microscopy stage since 2000.As part of the OME team, I worked over the full software development cycle in a hybrid Kanban-Agile development environment. My primary responsibilities, as lead in User Experience, included user requirements gathering, task analysis, specification and design of Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) developments, and design, development and delivery of User Support, including Help and training documentation. As a full- and part-time Researcher, I worked on projects in a wide area of applications, including Medical and Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics and in industry. Working at the Scottish Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit at the Astley Ainslie Hospital, I undertook a study into the effects of traumatic brain injury in the presence of alcohol abuse, focusing on the role of thiamine deficiency and Korsakoff’s syndrome. My role included design of the study, gathering of data, statistical analysis and presentation at conferences and in journal papers.I also worked on:• the development of a computerised system to quantitatively measure and classify limb spasticity using an electro-goniometer designed in collaboration with Prof. Jon Tapson of the University of Cape Town;• a study into the use of standardised systems for the measurement of rehabilitation outcome;• audit of outcomes from Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit;• multi-centre clinical drug trials.
