ABSTRACTThis work presents the concept and implementation of the technology RoF (Radio over fiber) to access wireless communications systems. The rapidly growing of new technologies and the growing number of users requires a larger data transmission capacity. The key differential of the RoF system is utilizing fiber for carrying signals, the fiber has characteristics such as high reliability, security and requires less power when compared to conventional systems.The main goal of this work is to present the elements that make up the RoF system and its characteristics in three main parts, the transmitter, the transmission medium (fiber) and the receiver, present some datasheet values of commercial components for RoF applications, and also present its functional characteristics.To show the components of the transmitter, which is, makeup by an electric-optic converter, usually, it is deployed a laser diode to accomplish the conversion, a Mach-Zehnder modulator for external modulation. After these procedures, it is applied to the fiber the modulated optical signal, which is a low loss and low dispersion transmission medium. An optical amplifier followed by optical receiver, which is a PIN photo diode, and optic-electric converter composes the receiver.To show the necessity of the pre-amplifier, power amplifier and duplexer for accomplishing a bidirectional communication, the matching network for getting the maximum transferred power at the antenna, thus completing a RoF system for wireless communication access.Keywords: Wireless Communication; Radio over Fiber; Optical fiber;
