Fernando Diz is the Martin J. Whitman Professor of Finance at Syracuse University where he teaches Value, Control and Distress Investing. A good friend and protégé of Martin J. Whitman, he is also the managing director of The Orange Value Fund, a hedge fund program specializing in value strategies. Fernando Diz also co-wrote two books with Martin J. Whitman: Distress Investing: Principles and Technique, and Modern Security Analysis: Understanding Wall Street Fundamentals. He regularly teaches seminars on Value Investing, Control Investing and Distress Investing around the world including in China, India, Thailand, Brazil, Colombia, South Korea and Myanmar. He has published academic articles on derivatives in the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Futures Markets, Journal of Derivatives and other academic and industry journals. An avid private pilot he has flown his single engine Beechcraft Bonanza solo from Syracuse to Buenos Aires and back, flying over the Caribbean and Pacific oceans and over the Andes mountains. He is also a glider pilot and enjoys Krav Maga training as well a reading philosophy. He earned his doctorate at Cornell University in 1989.
