 Maintained, monitored, and troubleshoot up to thirty Dell 2450 and Optiplex systems on Production and QA environments running NT. This includes upgrading hardware (CPU, memory) at AboveNet, implementing security patches on IIS, running and using Norton Ghost to quickly bring up new needed servers, and using Windows VNC to remotely login to each servers. Served also as a deploy engineer to deploy new Java codes to each servers for major upgrades and also simple minor updates. Existing bash scripts were used and proven operational procedures were used and tweaked to accomplish major deploys. As for minor deploys, simple DOS batchfiles were used to deploy just a number of files to each servers. Gained some experience with the F5 load balancer during the Java code deploys. Implemented one way trust between a PDC in the NETLAB domain running Win2K and a PDC in the OFFICE corporated domain running NT to have users from the OFFICE domain access to a specific server in the NETLAB domain. Made myself available 24 by 7 via pager and cell phone in case of emergencies.

 Implemented two node Microsoft Windows Clustering on Windows 2000 on two Compaq 8500 platforms. This also included clustering SQL 7.0 as the primary resource. The disk resource for this implementation included an EMC Symmetrix network disk system. Interface to this disk resource was implemented using fiber technology, and redundancy was achieved by using two of this HBA cards with Powerpath Software from EMC. Implemented two node Microsoft Windows Clustering on Windows 2000 on two IBM Netfinity servers and also on two Dell 6350 Poweredge systems. The disk resource for this implementation was straight SCSI. Monitored and remotely controlled these clustered systems using Microsoft Windows Terminal technology. Disaster recovery for these clustered systems was achieved by using Norton Ghost software.

 Handled day to day management issues relating to the operations of the production datacenter by coordinating successful deployments of all PointCast softwares to local and remote datacenters in Texas, Japan, Palo Alto and Chicago, holding bi-weekly meetings with engineers and network operations team members to keep everyone abreast of all company changes, server/feeds problems and improvements, and improving automation scripts to minimize work loads to all network operations team members. Installed WINS server to a PDC which resides in the datacenter to eliminate frequent Netbios name requests from each of the NT servers for communication which in turn reduces network traffic.  Installed and administered IIS as part of the Entrypoint server installs. Implemented multiple IP addresses in one NIC card to achieve needed requirement by the engineers to each of the Entrypoint NT servers. Deployed, maintained, monitored, and administered about 50 Linux servers in the datacenter. For example, short scripts were written and were scheduled to run to make sure jobs such as checking disk space and cleanup are executed. For the monitoring part, I helped in installing the client module for the Big Brother monitoring system which monitors all the Linux servers in the datacenter. Trained and continually assisted NOC team members to familiarize themselves with all the PointCast/Entrypoint related softwares, basic NT and Linux administration, Cybex monitoring, remote control monitoring using pcAnywhere, and Oracle client software installation. Kept myself available for datacenter emergencies 24 by 7, and covered any necessary shifts that was needed. Established and maintained operating procedures and centralized procedure and documentation for the datacenter. Established an excellent working relationship with other groups such as the network, database, technical support, and engineering group.

 Install, configure, administer, and maintain several NT 4.0 servers to serve as proprietary servers that deliver various contents to PointCast clients. Developed winbatch scripts for NT to maintain automation throughout all the NT machines. Developed, organized and maintained machine workstation monitoring by using Cybex monitoring switches. Expedited server uptimes from a bare machine server by using third party software such as Ghost software by Symantec. Maintained all necessary hardware upgrades to all NT servers including memory, hard disk, cpu, ethernet, and motherboard upgrades. Enabled NT remote control capability by using pcAnywhere to remotely monitor servers outside of Cupertino datacenter.

Configure low end PCs as either dedicated or remote print servers using Intel's Lanspool program on top of Novell's PServer NLM. Performed PC client installs to the Novell network and standardize on latest DOS and Windows Novell drivers like IPXODI, LSL, NETX, and the latest 3COM ethernet driver. Provided hardware and software support for PC users. Assembled and configured PCs, diagnosed hardware problems and fixed software setups, answered trouble calls and assisted users with systems problems from help desk.
