Molecular Genetics- Precision Oncology

-Lead a cross-disciplinary team of PhD and BS/MS scientists studying epigenetic mechanisms of tumorigenesis performing genomics (RNA/ChIP/RIP-Seq, HiC and 4C) and cell-based experiments on primary human mammary cells and cell lines. -Work with the Principal Investigator in the research program strategy and writing research grant proposals. Other responsabilities include the management of laboratory (staffing, supervision and mentoring of research staff, purchasing, etc), as well as to generate and manage internal/external collaborations including biorepository centers (UCSD, NDRI).Participation at Molecular Tumor Board at UCSD Moores Cancer Center providing scientific interpretation and evaluation of design, performance, clinical utility of NGS-based and Immuno-oncology clinical diagnostics and other molecular dx tests. I have uncovered novel molecular mechanisms of evasion of apoptosis by pre-malignant and cancer mammary cells driven by unsuspected micro-environmental signals from the tissues. This allows for these compromised cells to survive major catastrophic events produced by DNA damage or chemotherapeutic drugs.
