Fernando is a second-year student at Syracuse University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs with a concentration on Global Security and Diplomacy in the Americas, and a Minor in Political Science and Communication and Rhetorical Studies. He is a native Nicaraguan with dual citizenship who speaks both Spanish and English fluently.He is currently a News Anchor at CitrusTV, the student-run television station at SU, where he delivers news and commentary on local, national, and international issues. He is also a Consultant at Slice Consulting, the student-run consulting firm at SU, where he works with real clients on projects related to marketing, strategy, and innovation. Additionally, he is a FYS Peer Leader, assisting a cohort of 20 incoming freshmen with their college transition and fostering dialogues on topics such as inclusion, diversity, and belonging.Fernando has a passion for foreign policy, global security, democracy, and cross-cultural interactions, stemming from his personal and professional experiences in both Nicaragua and the U.S. He has been involved in various community engagement and service initiatives in both countries, such as teaching English to underprivileged children in Nicaragua, volunteering to the homeless around the greater Syracuse area, and working at a summer program at the Rectory School in Pomfret, CT. He aims to use his skills in communication, policy analysis, and leadership to influence and serve people in and outside the Syracuse community, and to continue his relationship with service platforms in Nicaragua and the United States.
