Automotive Design will cease to be a discipline focused entirely on aesthetics and become a profession from which cities, and in turn societies, will be transformed. I co-wrote the Transportation Design & Future Mobility Masters program to provide students with the tools required to develop a deep understanding of the historic evolution of the industry, global knowledge on the cultural, environmental and technological shifts predicted to have an impact on the market and, perhaps most importantly, the individual creative skills needed to help the discipline deal with the fact that car design, after all, is not only about designing cars, but about envisioning ways in which the automobile can regain its historic relevance. AMO, the research arm of Rem Koolhaas’ architecture practice, asked me to research and analyze the evolution of the auto dealership for a collaboration with Genesis, the luxury brand within the Hyundai Group. I did Strategic research and concept development for the design of the South Korean flagship store, which opened in Seoul in 2018.

I oversaw Concept, Strategy and Development services for a range of automotive clients and led a team working across Design, UX, Engineering and Visualisation. I also co-directed the development of Semcon’s Research & Innovation Lab, a space for Engineering and Design collaborations from which Sonic Movement, our explorative work on the future sounds of electric cars, was born.

As Design Director of THINK, I first led a team exploring the opportunities our company had to distinguish itself amongst imminent and more powerful electric car brand competitors. Then, my drive changed towards researching the context of electric mobility in the digital age, evaluating market, technology and business implications of the shift from product manufacturing to service providing and developing a strategy to set the Norwegian electric car brand as a benchmark in the car-sharing… Show more As Design Director of THINK, I first led a team exploring the opportunities our company had to distinguish itself amongst imminent and more powerful electric car brand competitors. Then, my drive changed towards researching the context of electric mobility in the digital age, evaluating market, technology and business implications of the shift from product manufacturing to service providing and developing a strategy to set the Norwegian electric car brand as a benchmark in the car-sharing segment. The research resulted in the proposal of a five-year-long strategy through which our company would avoid bankruptcy and step out of the business of making cars, to instead become a leader in the business of moving people.
