In this project, I standardized and used the DNA barcoding technique to identify the species of meat seized by the Environmental Police of the state of São Paulo, verifying whether they originated from illegal hunting. During a three-month observership program at the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL, USA, I worked in the Prof. Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD Laboratory. My project involved mice genotyping, sample processing, and analyzing differential gene expression of genes related to the physiology of thermogenesis in a "knockout" animal model in specific tissues.
