My practice focuses on all aspects of design patents, including prosecution, counseling, and litigation through jury trial. I also have experience in utility patent litigation in a variety of technologies. I have appeared before many different courts, including U.S. district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Fourth Circuit. My clients include those who hold design patents as well as those accused of infringement. I’ve worked with a wide range of designs including consumer and industrial products, medical devices, transportation and construction vehicles, and graphical user interfaces and icons. I have prosecuted families of design patents before the USPTO and directed prosecution in foreign countries. Before beginning my legal career, I graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy (Go Falcons!) and served five years on active duty as a communications officer. First, I was stationed at Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C., coordinating and overseeing testing of joint intelligence software systems. Later I worked at Thule Air Base (now Pituffik Space Base) in Greenland, where I was the flight commander in charge of base communications.

As an associate, my practice included design patent prosecution and litigation and patent litigation in federal district courts, at the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Specifically, I was involved in pre-litigation analysis, managing discovery in all aspects of fact and expert discovery, orchestrating complex claim construction analysis and briefing, and summary judgment briefing. I also worked extensively in discovery dispute resolution, expert and fact witness preparation and depositions, and settlement negotiations.

I had the honor of serving as a law clerk to Judge O'Grady. It was a fascinating year where I got a behind the scenes look at the workings of one of the busiest and fastest district courts in the country. I really felt like it was an amazing opportunity to see the ideas I had learned in law school in action.

Thule Air Base, Greenland

I served as a the flight commander of the communications flight at a remote base in Greenland. I was in charge of all communications-related activities, including telephones, intranet, radios, navigation/weather systems, and the post office. I supervised 10 other military service members and more than 50 contractors. I also edited and published a monthly base newspaper.

I served in a software test and evaluation group performing integration, interoperability, and security testing on software intended for top secret intelligence platforms. I supervised three team members and served as the contract technical representative for a group of 20+ contractors based in Rome, New York. I held a top-secret security clearance.
