● Designed, Developed, and Manufactured a Multi-scale Alignment and Positioning System (MAPS) for Lithography Research: A 6-DOF precision motion system with nanometer positioning accuracy and repeatability was designed and developed to support Ultra Mold Imprint Lithography (UMIL), Plasmonic Imaging Lithography (PIL), and workpiece inspection (e.g., atomic force microscopy). ● Designed and manufactured specimen and probe translation mechanisms with sub-micrometer positioning accuracy and stability for a Near-field Scanning Optical Microscope (NSOM). ● Diamond Turning: Carried out experiments to investigate the conditions in which ductile machining of ceramics is possible. Machining forces were measured, surface roughness characterized, and chip morphology were studied to determine the critical depth of cut for Silicon and Silicon nitride. In addition, various mechanical and optical quality components used for precision machine and instrument designs were fabricated by diamond turning and diamond fly cutting.● Successfully operated conventional and CNC machines for the manufacture of many mechanical, electro-mechanical, and optical components used in precision machine and instrumentation designs.
