I have always had a split personality. For the last 6 years I have battled to reconcile my affinity for the certainty of mathematics with my innate passion for exploring the subjectivity of global history. As a Data Scientist, I enthusiastically embrace this apparent contradiction. All too often, data and history are misappropriated to justify poor decisions in the present, without proper consideration for the future. My role is to use technology and mathematical models build the tools and processes required to direct the future -- yet, I fundamentally believe that it is only by uncovering the dynamics of the past, and training on this data, that we can choose what shape the future takes.Currently I am focused on:- Using Python and R to build APIs for making decisions about risk and profitability - Analysing vast quantities of historical data to uncover meaningful trends and indicators - Training machine learning algorithms on these high value features to make better and bolder decisions - Optimizing computational performance to deliver the best user experience, for both our customers and our analystsWhen I am not writing code (or debating the relative benefits of an institutional approach to historical analysis with my friends and colleagues) you can either find me in the kitchen experimenting with a new dish, or on the water competing in sailing events!
