Francisco Peña, PhD., is a Resiliency Project Manager at the SFWMD with expertise in compound flooding interactions. With a strong professional background in flood risk management, complex 2D hydraulic modeling, geomorphology, large-scale fluvial studies, resilience planning, GIS, flood damage assessments, and disaster risk reduction, Francisco has collaborated with renowned research centers and international organizations across Mexico, USA, France, Italy, and Switzerland.Dr. Peña holds two Ph.D. degrees in Earth Systems Science from Florida International University and Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Florence (Italy). In addition to his academic achievements, he actively collaborates to advance knowledge and promote international partnerships, including scientific research, and facilitates the establishment of bilateral agreements for Mexican universities.Currently, Francisco serves as the compound events expert for the FIU UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Water Security and is the Co-Chair of the International Policy Committee for the Association of Floodplain State Managers (ASFPM).
