Demonstrated its potential on Salmonella.• Trained multiple students and interns in using the corresponding chemical techniques and microbiological assays• Identified hit compound: synthesized and characterized a library of pantothenate analogs susceptible to be transformed by CoA-generating enzymes, developed and perfected synthetic routes, screened candidates.• Designed and validated multiple assays: a whole-cell assays (MIC, checkerboard) to evaluate pro-drug efficacy; LC-MS methods to monitor pro-drug transformation (in vitro, in cellulo) and stability.• Identified biocatalysis products using standards I synthesized. Purified biocatalytic reaction mixtures using homemade molecularly imprinted polymers. • Established a leadership role in the operations of the group and mentored graduate students in order to complete projects; led inventory update and reordering.

AuclairStudied the re-sensitization of a Salmonella subspecies to itaconate, a natural antibiotic secreted by macrophages during phagolysis. Following a prodrug approach, the molecules developed are activated in bacteria through the natural Co-enzyme A biosynthesis pathway to inhibit the enzymes responsible for itaconate degradation. We showed the restoration of Salmonella itaconate sensitivity back to the level of a non-resistant strain.Fields: medicinal chemistry, bacteriology, enzymology.2 publications
