About Francis I. Achike, Md, Phd, Med. Fcp.

With an MD (Anesthesiology) and PhD (Pharmacology) coupled with a deep interest in medical education (MEd), I have more than 25 years of global experience in developing and teaching in innovative integrated medical education, encompassing clinical skills and simulation. I have served as professor and chair in these disciplines with accolades from my students and colleagues alike. I have a deep passion for curriculum and faculty development; assessment and evaluation; and I continue to run faculty development seminars / workshops around the globe. I have been involved (in the last five years) in the accreditation process of three (one osteopathic and two allopathic) medical schools. I am currently Professor of Pharmacology, Anesthesiology, and Medical Education; Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation, and Chair of the Faculty Council at California University of Science and Medicine, School of Medicine (CalMed-SOM). With an MD (University of Ife, Nigeria), PhD (The University of Hong Kong) and MEd (University Malaya), I am a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and member of its Continuing Medical Education (CME) committee; member of the research committee of the Directors of Clinical Skills (DOCS) wing of the AAMC, and I sit on the International Advisory Board of the Asia-Pacific Association of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in the Health Sciences (APA-PHS). My research interest covers medical education and cardiovascular pharmacology with bias for diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. I have published severally and internationally and I continue to review for several scientific and medical education journals. I serve on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology (JCVP), the Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology (CEPP), Journal of Life Sciences, and the Journal of Medical Education (Taiwan).
