Kia ora! I am a facilitator, and a creative problem solver. I am passionate about the arts as well as environmental and social issues. I value empowering the community to create the change they want to see. I support our core team at non-profit Bike Auckland as our Chief Biking Officer. I also take a lead on our Inclusive Cycling campaign, advocating to reduce barriers to urban cycling for disabled and mobility impaired people, and ensuring this mahi aligns with the ethos "nothing about us without us."For my own artistic projects, I like to create opportunities for the public to spontaneously engage with art. Every year in February my project with Rainbow Riders 'Yarn for Pride' (2022 - ongoing) sees decorations pop up on the bike parking along Karangahape Road to celebrate Bike Month, Pride Month, and the growing cycling network. Yarn for Pride was awarded the "Loud Hurrah" at the 2024 Kūmara Awards!A previous pop-up project was 'The Story is in the Soil' bringing temporary story and poetry walks to public spaces. These were part of the Hamilton Fringe Festival through 2018 and 2019, and Kirikiriroa's Festival of Disruption 2020. I love to create immersive arts events such as Labyrinth (2020), which appeared as part of Fluid Borders Arts Festival, and Tunes in the Shrooms, a closing event for BOON After Dark's Shrooms exhibition in Garden Place (2020). Videos from both of these can be seen on my Youtube channel.I have seen how arts and spontaneity empower communities, increasing mental wellness, and building city pride. When I was directing the Hamilton Fringe Festival, with a strong focus on bringing spontaneous arts experiences to public spaces, (2018 - mid 2020) a festival-goer exclaimed to me “Hamilton is finally becoming somewhere I want to live."
