Christopher Buckingham is a cognitive scientist who specialises in building computational models of psychological classification and decision making. He has formal qualifications in both psychology (BSc)and computing (PhD), which are the two fundamental disciplines underpinning cognitive science. This has enabled him to program intelligent knowledge-based systems that provide expert advice in various diverse areas and, for the last ten years, he has been working on mental-health risk assessment. He is the co-developer of the Galatean Risk Screening Tool, GRiST (www.egrist.org), which is a sophisticated web-based decision support system for understanding the risks associated with mental-health problems. GRiST is one of the tools recommended by the UK Department of Health and is being used in a number of NHS Trusts and mental-health organisations.
