In November 2023, I took the opportunity to apply for a part-time job with the intention of extending my knowledge towards a different industry.My main job responsibilities:1. Work at such store locations or other venues as designated by the Company.2. Ensure customers walk away understanding more about themselves, our brand, andproducts.3. Assist in providing the best customer experience, including speaking to customers,and offering advice on colour, fit and silhouette to best suit their needs.4. Prepare and upkeep a clean shopping environment on the floor and at the fitting rooms.5. Cashiering duties using the POS system to process payments, exchanges, andrefunds.6. Work with other stores and colleagues in providing the best shopping experience.7. Responsible for security within the store and being on the lookout for shoplifters andfraudulent credit cards etc.Key Learning Points:As a Retail Sales Associate at Beyond The Vines, I am the frontline ambassador for the brand, providing exceptional customer service and a memorable shopping experience. My role involves product knowledge, inventory management, and cultivating strong client relationships. Through this position, I've honed my communication and sales skills, learning the importance of customer engagement and the art of retail presentation.

During my internship in Thye Hua Kwan(THK) Moral Society as an Intern working at THK EIPIC Centre @ Woodlands, I was given the opportunity to work with children of special needs. My main job responsibilities were:1. Conducting and leading routines and transitions such as group activity lessons and circle time for children ages 4-5 years old with special needs.2. Assisting lead teachers in routines and transitions such as supporting the children’s learning whilst lead teacher is conducting lesson and preparing resources for lessons to be conducted by lead teachers3. Sitting in for meetings with my respective lead teachers with the discussion of the children in the classroom and areas of improvement we can make in the classroom that could better support the children’s well-being and learning4. Being part of the field trip committee and mainly helping out with the logistics such as preparing items needed to aid in field trip like class banners and packing of goodie bags5. Attending staff training to improve myself professionally and learn new skills that can be applied in the classroomKey Learning Points:My six-month internship steered me towards the Early Intervention track, where I engaged with and educated children with special needs. This immersive experience, under the mentorship of seasoned professionals, deepened my understanding of the intricacies of early childhood education, especially within the context of special education. Working within esteemed organisations, I learned diverse facets of the industry and contributed to projects with tangible benefits for children, families, and the community. My growth and performance were meticulously assessed by my mentors and NIEC supervisors, ensuring a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience.

For my Practicum 2, I was placed in Carpe Diem Starlets 1 where I had my 1-month attachment assigned to a N2 (4-5 years old) class.My main job responsibilities:1. Conducting lessons with children ages 4-5 years old2.Assisting host teachers with routines and transitions3. Observing children's abilities and needs to better plan my lessonsKey Learning Points: During a pivotal 1-month attachment in my 2nd year, I delved deeper into the world of early childhood education, focusing on children aged three to six. I embraced the role of a teacher-assistant, where I gained practical experience by setting up and re-designing interactive play spaces and learning centers. I also facilitated small group activities, enriching my skills in child engagement. This practicum allowed me to plan and implement tailored learning experiences, considering the unique interests, needs, and abilities of each child while applying effective classroom management strategies. I was given opportunities to be the main teacher as I conducted my class with only 5 children. One thing that was given as a compliment from my Practicum Supervisor was my classroom management and engagement with the children. She enjoyed how I targetted on the children's likes to build the learning experiences for them which made the children more excited and motivated. She also liked how I managed the children when they were disrupting the lessons by redirecting their attention onto the activity. Hence, I delved into the main teacher's perspective and was given opportunities to apply my knowledge in my 1-month attachment.

Moving from my 2-week attachment, I was recommended by my Senior Teacher to join them as a Temporary Assistant Teacher.My main job responsibilities:1. Covering classes that is in need of manpower2.Helping teachers with resource preparation and classroom decoration3. Assisting main teacher in the classroom with routines and transitionsKey Learning Points:As an introvert, floating around classes was definitely something out of my comfort zone. However, looking at the brighter side, I got to develop my adaptive skills and grew closer to the teachers in the centre which helped me adjust to the centre better. I was also exposed to children of different ages which gave me insights on the different types of resources used for each age group. One thing I definitely did not lack fo was the amount of creative expression I had. I was given opportunities is honing my creative skills through the numerous classroom decorations I have done as shown below (e.g. Term-End Party).

Immersed in the daily rhythms of a vibrant classroom, I learned essential caregiving techniques and educational strategies, providing me with an invaluable hands-on introduction to the nurturing role of an early educator. One memorable experience was learning to better support a child's learning through scaffolding. It did not sound as easy as it sounded, however, I definitely gave a chance to apply my knowledge from Practicum 1 onto this attachment experience.
