Work on PhD project entilted "Quantification of Cholesterol Solubilization by Bile Salt Micelles: Implications in its Intestinal Absorption by Passive Processes".

Short term fellowship funded by EMBO entitled "Are lipids with one saturated and one cis-unsaturated acyl chain chaophilic/chaophobic amphiphiles in the membrane plane?" to work in Physical Chemistry Department in Lund University (Sweden)

PhD fellowship funded by FTC-MCES (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology - Ministry of Science and Higher Education) entilted "Quantification of Cholesterol Solubilization by Bile Salt Micelles: Implications in its Intestinal Absorption by Passive Processes". The PhD thesis involved the study of solubilization events at intestinal lumen (e.g. cholesterol) using quantitative NMR, inclusing nutrients with hypocholesterolemic action. Aditionally, study on the partition of the most common bile salts present at intestinal lumen to lipid model membranes using Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was adressed with relevance for drug delivery field.

Permeation of drugs model lipid membranes (large unilamellar vesicles) mimetizing blood brain barrier in a project financed by Portuguese Science Foundation entilted "Quantitative Modelling of Passive Transcytotic Diffusion of Amphiphilic Molecules Across the Blood-Brain Barrier". Part of studies involved the characterization of kinetic parameters such as insertion, desorption and translocation rates of amphiphiles in to LUV using the following spectroscopic techniques: Fluorescence, Absorption and Stopped flow.

Research on a project entilted "Kinetics and Thermodynamics of the Association of a Fluorescent Amphiphile with Lipidic Bilayers in the Liquid Disordered Phase". In this project I characterize kinetic parameters, like insertion, desorption and translocation rates of amphiphiles in to large unilamellar vesicles modelling biological membranes.

Teaching/tutoring - junior teaching assistant for two years at Chemistry Department giving Analytical Chemistry and Laboratory Chemistry (practical classes)

Research related with metabolic diseases in humans (Diabetes). Use of metabolic tracers (with Deuterium and Carbon 13) extracted from blood and urine collections and purified by HPLC (and other types of chromatography). They were analysed by quantitative Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.
