My core gift & passion is helping others to courageously be themselves and to co-create a world in which everyone's needs matter. I support people to feel connected to themselves and others, to know where they stand in their values and what matters to them, and to clearly communicate this to others. I use tools and insights that I have gathered over decades of personal exploration and training including Compassionate Communication, Compassion Focused Therapy and Core Gifts Facilitation. I have gained personal experience of the radical difference that conscious communication skills make in relating to self, others and the environment. I’m a mother of two, an educator with over 30 years' experience teaching all ages, groups and cultures, and an internationally certified trainer in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with cnvc.org. I love to support others on their journeys towards living more lightly on the Earth in connected and sustainable communities.

I teach English as a Foreign Language to adult international students, the majority of whom are on academic pathways to study various degrees at Griffith University. I have taught at all levels from Beginner to Advanced, in both General English and Academic English.Besides teaching, I counsel my students about their pathways and progress, assess my students and make recommendations for their promotion. I design and conduct lessons and assessments which are then added to the general teaching resources used by all staff. I provide guidance and support to my colleagues and mentor new staff. I am proficient in all IT related aspects of our work and am often called upon to help and train other staff members who are not so confident on computers, the Internet and our online lesson delivery platforms.
Online
I developed online, interactive self-study materials for EF which has a chain of English language schools around the world. I worked with a team of content developers and developed a range of materials for various levels including academic skills development.

Englishtown (now known as EF Live) was a global online English school that uses online conferencing software for group and private voice discussion classes. I consistently rated in the top ten of over 200 teachers according to student ratings. I was the first recipient of the etThank Award, an award to recognise teaching excellence based on student and teacher administration feedback. I actively participated in developing and implementing a number of projects for Englishtown including an English Fluency Test for staff of Hitachi Corporation in Tokyo. I taught conversational as well as grammar and ESP classes (medical, nursing). I developed a large number of lessons for the online environment on a huge array of topics. These lessons were utilised by many of my colleagues.

I was employed for my training and supervisory skills despite having no experience in the tourism industry. I learned the company’s custom-built reservation system and co-authored a User Manual. I developed training materials and was responsible for training, supervision and rostering of reservation staff. I also worked in the Reservations department taking bookings and calls in Japanese. In my last year there, I worked in the Accounts department gaining experience in Accounts Receivable/Payable, bookkeeping and banking.

I taught a broad variety of courses from very young children to adults, from individuals to group classes, including conversation, reading, writing, English for Special Purposes (medical and nursing), and TOEFL preparation. During the director’s absence, I took over the role of administering the school and liaised between the teachers and the owner. I was responsible for the interviewing and hiring of teachers and all aspects of administering a language school such as scheduling, matching classes with appropriate teachers and selecting textbooks. In addition, I organised all the special events for the school.

I worked for the Foreign Languages Department teaching conversation and reading to 2nd and 3rd year students who were majoring in EFL. My duties included all aspects of classroom management: development of goals and objectives; a course syllabus; class learning activities; and procedures for testing and evaluation.

Tokyo, Japan
I was chosen over a large number of applicants for this position. Duties included curriculum development, scheduling, promotions, teaching, textbook selection, interviewing, hiring and supervision of new teachers. Unfortunately, this school closed down due to a change in the owner’s personal circumstances.

I was hired from Australia to help launch this pilot program of introducing native English speaking teachers to Yamaha classes whose main teachers were Japanese. I taught children’s classes all over Tokyo and surrounding areas. I then wrote and taught English improvement courses for the Japanese English teaching staff. In my second year, I was promoted to supervisor of foreign staff to take care of this rapidly expanding program. I was in charge of recruiting, training, hiring and rostering foreign staff both in Tokyo and other cities. This job was very challenging and required a lot of initiative. I successfully built up the program and coordinated a large team of native English speaking teachers. I was also involved in the demonstration and promotion of the Yamaha method often to groups of 100 people. I wrote a comprehensive training manual of the Yamaha English Education method.
