I think that a real multi-channel commerce can only be built on top of an API driven infrastructure. An e-commerce website should be just one of the consumers of a company business logic, exposed via their fast, scalable and PCI compliant RESTful APIs. All the e-business applications should be designed with a mobile-first approach, keeping things simple and achieving innovation through a strong usability and a great user experience.

I'm responsible for the design and the development of the Gucci.com e-commerce website (Ruby on Rails) and the Company e-business applications. One of my most challenging (and successful) projects has been the new mobile e-commerce site, that I managed and integrated with our existing backend.

I strongly believe in Behaviour Driven Development, I never start a line of code without writing the cucumber feature first and I’m pretty sure that this is the only way for building rock solid, reliable and maintainable software. I think that cloud computing is a good friend, recently I moved some of my applications to heroku, using Amazon S3 for storage and other external services for email delivering (Sendgrid, CloudSMTP) or performance analysys and scaling (New Relic).

In these 4 years I’ve spent my working time (including some weekends!) developing RoR web sites and applications. I’ve always covered all the aspects (except graphics) needed in applications development, from early stage ideas to features definition, database desing and optimization (MySQL and PostgreSQL), programming with Rails and unobtrusive javascript (JQuery), servers setup (Ubuntu), version control (GIT, SVN), deploying (Capistrano) and scaling

Infoblu is the company that develops web applications for the monitoring of Italian motorways, by collecting information from cameras, traffic sensors, weather stations and so on. I have dealt with many interesting aspects, including the definition of protocols for integrating data coming from sensors and the development of applications mainly written in J2EE and AJAX.

The health care sector is the company core business, in Italy and abroad. I worked as the project manager for the provision of a RIS / PACS (Radiology Information System / Picture Archiving and Communication System) for the Mater Dei hospital in Malta. It has been a good experience, because I had the opportunity to manage the business and organizational aspects related to the management of a big project and this has been very useful for me also later.
