A writer who entered the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Film and Television program to learn the art of directing, Robyn Charles received a B.A. and MFA from the program. Spending eight years under intense professional development, she wrote several features as well as producing, directing, shooting, and editing several narrative and documentary films. While at UCLA, Robyn has earned several honors and awards including the National Association of Theater Owners Of California & Nevada Film Fellow, the Joseph W. Drown Award For Motion Picture Production, the Motion Picture Association of America Award, the Peter Stark Memorial Film Scholarship, the John Densmore Film Scholarship, the Pearl Glicksman Film Scholarship and the Rita Morrison Film Award. She is now living in Los Angeles as a full-time producer and educator, making her first feature film debut with, Fingerprints. As a film educator, Robyn wrote original honors curriculum for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD). All of Robyn’s curriculum has been approved as University of California A-G Curriculum. What emerged is an award-winning film program within three years, nationally recognized by Advance Career Technical Education (CTE) as one of the top film programs in the nation. Serving as Adjunct Faculty at West Los Angeles Community College, Charles launched a union training program preparing high school students for the industry with OSHA regulated safety as well as grip and rigging training. She has now partnered with the California Department of Education, The IATSE Trust Fund, and the California Film Commission to bring college-level arts, media, and entertainment training to communities of color. A goal she plans to meet with the launch of the Diversity Production Pro, by providing a direct relationship between creator and consumer radically changing the notion of membership communities as a means to break down barriers.
