Clio is the study association of International Relations & International Organization (IRIO) at the University of Groningen. With around 1100 members it is the largest study association at a Dutch Faculty of Arts.The International Research by Students Programme (IRSP) is a board of Clio that allows third-year bachelor and master students of IRIO to conduct research for a broad spectrum of actors, ranging from international companies, to NGOs, and to (foreign) governments. IRSP is responsible for the complete planning and implementation of the research projects. As Research Coordinator and Commissioner of Corporate Relations, it was my task to network with external stakeholders and potential research partners, to supervise and coordinate our research projects, and to recruit and guide a research team during the implementation process. I was responsible to coordinate a joint research partnership with the Province of Groningen. The research focused on exploring the economic and cultural contacts and to foster potential business opportunities for the Province of Groningen with the Baltic States and Scandinavian countries. We provided the Province with a policy proposal on how to enhance cooperation with already existing businesses and to discover new opportunities for collaboration. The main focus was to facilitate these opportunities for private businesses in light of the Province’s knowledge institutes and businesses.The position allowed me to further strengthen my communication skills in a professional academic context, to work and cooperate in a diverse and international research team, and to gain insightful knowledge into the nexus of commerce and academic research.
