My team was responsible for the tools used by the journalists for content creation and publishing. This ranged from web application development to integration points, messaging flows, API management and data storage.Back end applications were largely written in Java with the Spring framework or Javascript/Typescript with NodeJS; front end apps used AngularJS and React-esque frameworks. These were all containerised and running in Kubernetes on both Google GCP and AWS clouds. Infrastructure was managed in code with Terraform. We employed a range of CI/CD tools and methods to improve quality and speed up delivery.Our team was responsible for building, shipping and running our applications. This meant a broad scope of responsibility covering application development, CI/CD, infrastructure management and production monitoring.The product department underwent a lot of growth during my time at Stuff. I was involved in recruitment for engineers and product owners as we formed new squads. This included interviews, technical tests, on-boarding and training new staff.

I was contracted by Topia to work as part of a remote team spread across Europe. My work in the team involved software improvements across the stack for the Talent Mobility SaaS offering provided by Topia.On the back end I largely focused on Java Spring applications and MySQL databases, with my main contributions being in the finance and data spaces. Working on the the front end usually consisted of feature improvements and bug fixes in the various Angular and JSP applications our team supported.

Topia (FKA Move Guides) is a startup offering global mobility SaaS software. I worked in a few of the agile teams that made up the engineering department.Initially on the service area, helping with live fixes, data quality and any critical bugs across the entire system.After establishing knowledge of the system architecture my focus was later turned to the finance team.The finance software handled the ledgers, reporting, workflow and integration to make payments to bank accounts worldwide.I worked on creating a range of microservices for new features in other parts of the business, this was part of breaking apart the legacy system which was a large java project (1/2 million+ lines).This included integration with third parties and some front end development from time to time.
