Now exclusively federal practice in matters before the USPTO, patent searches and prior art landscapes.Also active in the U.S. and in Asia in the fields of distance education, ESL instruction, instructional design, taught physics and TOK in a Texas public high school, and now coordinate legal services for a Texas charter school.Since 2006, I’ve served as in-house contractor, of counsel, and solo, identifying, clarifying, and assisting commercialization of inventions and other creative assets. Designed and refined systems for managing IP portfolios and carrying out legal function with variable staffing levels. Adapted basic management skills to training, coaching, and supervising specialized attorneys and service providers. Developed analytical methods with large data sets generated during patent search and opinion projects.Since entering the legal profession in 1992, I wrote and amended patent applications for cutting-edge inventions (vascular intervention, minimally invasive surgery, drug delivery, assessment of motor disorders, kinetic and electronic weapons, sporting goods, tools, footwear), assisted with patent and copyright litigation, negotiated data service contracts with major financial entities on behalf of a large data provider, counseled businesses on commercial transactions, and handled projects in litigation including civil RICO and family law.Earlier, I piloted vaccine development projects as a pharmaceutical research specialist and conducted virology and immunology experiments in basic research. Still earlier, I assisted an information broker in accessing academic publications and I wrote and edited shipboard instructional materials which were used aboard naval vessels.
