Runjia Fiona Chen is a landscape architect and an advocate for the built environment. With backgrounds in landscape, architecture, communication, and practice experience in China, U.S. and Australia, Runjia developed her interest in anthropogenic landscapes and believed that deep connection and conscious design would lead to a more sustainable living. In 2023, as an extension of her thesis project, Fiona organised an MPavilion discussion, “The Afterlife of Concrete”, which challenges how we think differently about how we use and value this resource and provides insights into how we work with concrete in more innovative and reusable ways.As a landscape architecture practitioner, Fiona has worked on a number of projects at various scales including educational, commercial and corporate campuses. Having liaised with private and public clients, she sees both challenges and opportunities in projects and determines to realise ideas with considerations for aesthetics, functionality and practicality. Her skill set enables her to deliver concepts with various techniques including 3D modelling, grasshopper, GIS and hand drawing, derived from research, analysis and design tests. Fiona focuses on human experiences, ecological systems and materiality in landscape and is passionate about creating landscape environments that bring a larger social impact.
