About Fiona Chen

Meet Fiona Chen — a passionate advocate and undergraduate student in the University of British Columbia’s Bachelor’s and Master’s of Management (BMM) Dual Degree program. With a concentration in Behavioural Neuroscience and a minor in Health and Society, Fiona aspires to pursue a future career in mental health counselling and public health. Fiona’s dedication to mental health advocacy is deeply personal, coloured by her own experiences with mental illness as a second-generation Taiwanese immigrant. These experiences not only fuel her goals to destigmatize mental health and address disparities in access to mental health care, but also inform her intersectional approach to advocacy. As a research assistant at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Fiona is currently examining gaps in mental health literacy in Chinese populations and developing culturally sensitive mental health resources. In addition to mental health, Fiona is actively involved as a sexual health educator for high school students in the Lower Mainland with Vancouver Coastal Health’s BLUSH program. Through leading workshops and designing curricula, Fiona prioritizes evidence-based sex education that is inclusive to people of all identities.
