About Fiona Mchenry (Eberhardt)
Like many, I haven’t always had a positive relationship with food, but it wasn’t until I started working in hospitality for several years that I became increasingly interested in how food and nutrition can play a positive role in how I felt and what I enjoyed. As a way to learn more about food and nutrition, I embarked on the journey of completing a Master of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice at Bond University Queensland Australia. During my hospitality experience and university degree, I enjoyed working collaboratively with others. I provided a high standard of clinical care communicating in an interdisciplinary environment contributing dietetic skills and knowledge that support and improve the health of others. Having completed my community and public health placement in the Solomon Islands and travelled to Hong Kong for my international placement I have enhanced my skills of communicating complex and sensitive nutritional information to others. I was able to engage with a range of stakeholders and improve my cultural awareness through observation and involvement in different cultural practice. I have been a part of the assessment and planning for the new international dysphagia diet standardised initiative (IDDSI) framework, providing a suite of education material for all stakeholders and as well as a recommended education plan. I have led and contributed to multiple research projects, including a qualitative study, a prospective observational cohort study and a systematic literature review. Dietetics has allowed me to put myself out there and be an active member of the community. I have a genuine interest in helping others and adapting to any situation to extract the best possible outcome for the team or the individual.
