I develop partnership, funding models and frameworks for art projects. I have worked with the National Trust establishing and implementing a fundraising strategy for their Curatorial and Collections directorate; in parallel I have worked with UK and KSA-based arts bodies developing policy through research and benchmarking practices (eg. for Ministry of Culture and Royal Commission of Al Ula; BALTIC Gateshead) and working on programming with independent arts body the Saudi Art Council. In 2018 I co-curated a 20 year retrospective of Cairo’s Townhouse galley at Mosaic Rooms in London. I continue to work with the gallery I co-founded in Nairobi, Circle, developing our business beyond East Africa. More locally I am advising two cultural charities near where I live in East Sussex: Great Dixter and Drawing Life, as committee member and trustee respectively.

Working for a variety of contemporary art organisations in Saudi Arabia, including Athr Gallery in Jeddah and the Saudi Art Council: presenting fundraising strategies, writing sponsorship proposals (for corporate and individual prospects), advising on international partnerships and writing in-gallery interpretation materials.Developed and co-ordinated a landmark training programme, Contemporary Collective, which saw 6 Saudi women trained in curatorial and arts management skills and go on to curate an exhibition using the British Council collection at Athr Gallery. Contracted by the British Council. Encompassed partnerships with UK and Saudi based art spaces, foundations (including Saudi Arts Council) and high-profile advisors from gov and non-gov sectors.

Establishing and running a contemporary art agency in Nairobi, focussing on growing the domestic and international market for East African art. Secured significant financing to establish the company with two partners. On-going activities include a flagship annual auction, gallery exhibitions, individual and corporate art consultancy. Also co-managed disperse of funds for The African Arts Trust. Answerable to shareholders; profitable after Year One and doubled profits in Year Two. Establishing a committee of African art collectors to assist the Tate in acquiring works of African art.Sourcing, contacting and working with potential committee members to organise events, presentations and agendas of interest to the group. Arranging international trips to events related to contemporary African art. Tripled the target of membership within six months, securing 25 members.

Managing fundraising from individuals, trusts and foundations for Exhibitions, Learning and Conservation programmes, across Tate Britain and Modern. Managed a team of development officers, exceeding annual target of GBP 1.2million, despite climate of recession. Writing proposals, applications and pitching directly to potential donors; ensuring the highest level of donor care for a large prospect pool; organising events to focus fundraising efforts on upcoming projects and working closely with donor-advocates to widen the prospect pool.

Structuring and implementing a coherent fundraising strategy for this leading non-profit art space in the Middle East encompassing 3 gallery spaces, a 300-seat theatre, animation room, library and artist studios. Approaching corporate sponsors, private donors and foundations. Writing grant proposals including budgets and evaluation systems for amongst others the EU and Ford Foundation. Organising fundraising events at the gallery, including the launch of a Friends scheme and two benefit auctions, attended by over 400 guests. Developing partnerships and projects with international art spaces including The Serpentine, London; SITE Santa Fe and Guggenheim, Abu Dhabi. Currently serve on the Townhouse Board.

Representing the BBC to key arts bodies and developing partnerships with galleries, museums, festivals, and organisations such as the Baltic, National Gallery, Tate and Arts Council. Identifying areas of shared interest and generating support and financial commitment for specific projects. Writing marketing and publicity briefs on specific art projects and programmes for press and website. Creating opportunities and ideas for outreach activities to accompany series: exhibitions, debates, lectures, and driving these forward with partners.

Managing the overall form of this project, centred around a landmark BBC One series: originating ideas for collaboration within and outside the BBC to enhance the impact beyond TV. External partners included Tate Britain, 15 regional art galleries, Visit Britain and nationwide community centres; developing and delivering activities with these partners. Managing the project internally across BBC platforms - Online, Interactive, Radio, local BBC groups, BBC Schools, Marketing, Publicity and BBC Worldwide (commercial).

Originating ideas for arts programmes, across all BBC TV channels. Producing comprehensive research documents, structuring series, writing script excerpts and finding original angles for stories. Mastering material for programme proposals across the arts and culture genres. Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of audience needs, working to the strategic aims of BBC commissioners. Writing formal proposals for channel controllers and commissioners.
