About Fiona Költringer
My responsibilities as an infectious disease epidemiologist at the Austrian public health institue AGES cover the surveillance of respiratory diseases focusing on TB and respiratory viruses to inform national policy making stakeholders in the control of infectious diseases. I am using a wide range of different methodologies including syndromic and molecular surveillance as well as sentinel and eHalth data based surveillance. My clinical background as a fully trained and licensed GP allows me to apply a holistic conception of the transmission and pathophysiology of infectious diseases in individuals to my understanding of their complex occurence in populations. I am especially interested in the social patterning of infectious diseases, and hope to contribute impactful scientific evidence to reduce global health inequalities. My passion is to fight disinformation and misinformation in public health through engaging in health journalism and writing popular sicence.
