Carries out place based research alongside ‘research on research’ to explore transformative landscapes, transformative knowledge systems and associated science, technology and innovation policy.Extensive experience in the design, management and implementation of transdisciplinary research initiatives which bridge the natural and social sciences, and engage with local communities, NGOs and policy makers. Much work in critical transition zones or ‘frontiers of sustainability’ undergoing rapid social and environmental change and socio-ecological systems analysis concerning: sustainable food systems and multi functional land use; ecosystem services and poverty alleviation linkages; rural-urban dynamics, emergent environmental health challenges; pollution and waste management, the food-water-energy nexus.Interested in the role of science, technology and innovation policy in addressing balanced growth needs of the SDGs; including enhancing social justice and environmental integrity. Co producing tool and processes to guide multi stakeholder exploration of the characteristics and enablers for transformative research for development/science systems/knowledge systems.
