NovelEco is an ERC project exploring societal attitudes to urban wild spaces. In my role as research assistant, I work individually (MSc project) and as part of a six person team. This research involves designing, implementing, and analysing both quantitative and qualitative fieldwork to investigate the intersection of design and biodiversity within the planning and development process in Ireland. This research work also includes a detailed literature review, policy analysis study, case studies, data extraction, presentation, and synthesising the overall findings into a thesis.

BioSense is a collaboration between Trinity College Dublin (Nature+), and O’Brien Landscaping, facilitated through the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher Programme. The project objective is to provide decision support and reporting standards for site scale biodiversity monitoring and enhancement. The initial stage work package entailed a detailed literature review of indicators and methodologies used for measuring, monitoring, and reporting environmental baseline conditions at a site scale. Over 400 indicators were reviewed, analysed, synthesised, and collated into a report with findings, discussion, and recommendations.

TOT Architects is a commercial architectural practice, delivering projects for a range of clients in various sectors. Consequently, I gained diverse experience on developments such as commercial offices, nursing homes, hotels, student housing, and protected structures. I was extensively involved in securing planning permission for two significant projects in Dublin city centre. In 2019 I was awarded the role of ‘associate’ which allowed me to further develop my skills in a management capacity.

KMA offer expertise in a wide range of building types with a focus on sustainable contemporary design specialising in one-off housing, home extensions, refurbishments, and commercial developments. My role as architect part II involved liaising with various stakeholders such as clients, planning authorities, and contractors for the execution of design projects. Responsibilities included measured surveys, design development, planning permissions, preparation of tender packages, contract administration, construction inspection, and certification.
