The Disability Health Network was launched in November 2012 as a joint initiative of the Department of Health and the Disability Services Commission. As one of 18 Networks in Western Australia, the Disability Health Network aims to improve health outcomes for people with disability, their families and carers via systemic change.As Co-Lead, I work closely with a 16 member Executive Advisory Group and two support staff to lead the many changes necessary to provide people with a better health experience.

The National Disability Insurance Agency commenced on 1 July 2013, charged with oversight of implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This is a three year Ministerial appointment. In this role, I also sit on the NDIS Perth Hills Trial Site Local Advisory Group and the WA NDIS My Way Reference Group.

Community First is a not for profit organisation providing employment and community services to people experiencing disadvantage across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

In my role as Vice Chairman, I supported the Chairman to oversee the performance of the organisation, work towards achievement of the Strategic Plan and ensure good governance. I was also on the Governance Sub-committee and Chair of the Funding Sub-committee.

Parents of Children with Disabilities Inc. is a not for profit organisation that provides practical and emotional support to families of children with special needs. Services are provided by The Kalparrin Centre, which is located in the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre at PMH. The annual revenue grew from $80 000 to almost $1 000 000 during my time as Chairman and the organisation provided services to over 1000 people during the 2011-2012 year. ChairmanThe primary role of the Chairman of the Board was to oversee performance, ensure compliance with regulations and develop a strategic vision for the organisation.The seven years of my involvement saw significant growth in service demand and I led the changes necessary to accommodate this increase and position the organisation to take advantage of partnership opportunities to ensure future viability.The Strategic Plans developed during my time as Chairman upheld the core values of the organisation and formed the basis for a financially secure future.

The aim of this role was to engage with sector organisations and key stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to the problems faced by people with high and/complex needs accessing community based supports. It involved the establishment of the nature and scope of the issue, development of partnerships with key stakeholders, exploration of potential solutions and modeling of associated costs.

The Disability Services Commission is a government department responsible for services to the 385,000 people with disabilities and their families in Western Australia.The main focus of my term of appointment was the review and of all services within the directorate to ensure their alignment with the organisations’ strategic goals. The services included medical, dental, autism, eligibility and research.This review culminated in Board endorsement of the proposed changes and service initiatives recommended.The position was also responsible for the day to day operations of the directorate with a budget exceeding $2 million.

The two hospitals are responsible for the provision of tertiary health services to women and children and their families throughout Western Australia.This role was responsible for the management of physiotherapy services to inpatients and outpatients across both sites.The strategic focus of this position was the establishment of formal relationships with community based services to prepare for system wide changes in health.

Rocky Bay Inc. is a non-government organisation responsible for the provision of services to people with neuromuscular conditions and their families.This role was responsible for management of a team of more than 30 clinical staff including professionals and assistants.Crucial to continuing operations was the success of applications submitted to fund new projects and innovative models of service delivery.The position was part of the Executive Management Team of the organisation with responsibility for strategic planning and policy development.

As Vice President of the WA Branch of the APA, I was responsible for supporting the President to lead the branch through a time of rapid change and nationalisation.

As Chairman of the National Professional Development Committee, I led the establishment of a national Continuing Professional Development scheme for over 10 000 members and nationally endorsed Competency Standards for Paediatric Physiotherapy.

As Branch Councillor, I contributed to the strategic planning for the WA Branch in the context of an increasingly nationalised focus for the organisation.
