I am currently working in the Marine Ecosystems Branch, within the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, providing expert technical advice in relation to projects and proposals which have the potential to impact upon the marine environment. In particular, I provide advice in relation to effects on water quality and benthic habitats. My background is a PhD in coral reef ecology and over 15 years experience working in coral reef ecology and fisheries science. I have a broad knowledge of tropical and sub-tropical benthic communities and I am specifically skilled in coral taxonomy, biology and ecology. I have experience in the design, conduct, management and reporting of coral health monitoring programs. I have a Part II commercial diving qualification and over 1000 hours of diving experience. I have extensive experience working as a team leader and managing field operations in remote locations. I also have a strong background working in fisheries science – involved with assessments of invertebrate and fin fish resources, and examining the effects of fishing activities on marine benthic habitats. I have worked for various different organisations including consultancy, state and federal governments and international aid programs throughout Australia and the Indo Pacific. I have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a range of audiences including scientists, clients, stakeholders, and government agencies. I have produced many technical reports and my work has been published in scientific journals. In my current role I write environmental impact assessments and provide professional comment on a range of marine related projects
