Yu (Fiona) Bai is an actress-turned-writer, director, and producer with an MFA in Producing from the California Institute of the Arts. She founded Palette Pictures, specializing in media production and social media content marketing. Collaborating with U.S. filmmakers, she develops Hollywood-style films, premium TV series, and travel content for social media, targeting the Chinese market with international appeal.In 2024, she co-wrote and co-produced High Forces (《危机航线》), China's first hijack film starring Andy Lau (刘德华), released globally on September 30, 2024. It's currently in theaters! Since 2020, during the pandemic, she has produced over 200 wellness travel videos and launched her WeChat video channel 白羽的幸福小站 (Fitfoodiebaiyu), sharing calming nature and rural villages from her travels. She conducted social media content marketing for major clients like Trip.com(NASDAQ: TCOM), to promote travel destinations. Her travel short film Maling River Canyon (《马岭河峡谷》) was awarded "Top 10 Recommendations of 2020" by Ctrip, and Shimiwadi (《诗蜜娃底》) was listed among the "100 Places Worth Visiting in a Lifetime."In 2018, she co-authored the sci-fi novel The Awakened (《觉醒》), winning the Best Novel Award at the Water Droplet Awards (水滴奖), co-presented by Tencent and the China Science Writers Association.In 2015, she wrote and co-directed the spy series The Substitute (《替身》), also starring as actress and showrunner. Streamed on iQIYI, it was China's first modern spy-thriller made with American filmmakers. Variety noted it as a show that "represents something of a genre stretch for Chinese content." In 2014, she won the “Best Entrepreneur” award by COTC (for overseas-educated entrepreneurs in Beijing CBD). She produced over 50 short films, winning Best Picture at the Beijing International Short Film Festival.In 2013, she produced and starred in the feature film Day of Redemption (《早见晚爱》) with Vic Zhou (仔仔), released nationwide in China.In 2008, she created, co-produced with three-time Oscar-winning director Mark Harris and directed Oceans Away (《大洋彼岸》), a 14-episode CCTV documentary on Chinese students and entrepreneurs in the U.S.Before studying in the U.S., Yu Bai won China's "Best New Personality Award," among several other accolades that year, and starred as the lead in Modern Family (《摩登家庭》), a prime-time CCTV co-production.
