The Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean, POGO, is a forum created in 1999 by directors and leaders of major oceanographic institutions around the world to promote global oceanography.As POGO Communications Officer, I have day-to-day responsibility for communicating about our activities and achievements. Highlights include capacity development through training programmes and innovative approaches to ocean observing, as well as hands-on outreach, advocacy and ocean literacy work. I regularly provide communications support for POGO working groups, training initiatives and other projects in their early stages, such as COLLECT (Citizen Observation of Local Litter in Coastal ECosysTems), OpenMODs (Open Access Marine Observation Devices), and the UN Ocean Decade endorsed programme, OBON (Ocean Biomolecular Observing Network). I also manage our websites, run our social media channels, design/produce printed and electronic outreach materials, and represent POGO in-person at exhibitions and conferences.The POGO Secretariat is hosted by PML, in Plymouth, UK.
