About Fiona Cook

I work on a range of research projects and consultation activities that support equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and student success in HE. I have strong skills in research design, data analysis, and student voice.I am passionate about advancing social justice and educational equity, and my research interests include EDI, intersectionality, belonging, culture, and supporting marginalised groups. My academic background includes an MA in Education and Social Justice, with a dissertation on "Culture, representation, and barriers to success for People of the Global Majority in higher education". I have work published and pending publication in these areas.As well as EDI and education, I am also interested in charity and politics, and I would welcome opportunities to explore these areas further.

I supported elected officers with national issues, particularly those relating to politics and HE reform.     After 5 months working as the 6th Form Academy administrator at Highbury College, I was promoted to Company Secretary as my role had evolved and led to me taking on more responsibility for the operational support of the 6th Form Academy. 

My new role required me to support the Learning Company which covered 7 different departments. My role continually developed and was incredibly diverse, with key responsibilities including quality, growth, curriculum development, marketing, data analysis and reporting, and finance.

As Company Secretary I also had PA responsibilities for the Managing Director of Education & Skills. This enhanced my ability to prioritise and adapt as I balanced a heavy workload. My role continued to develop to meet the needs of the College and utilise my skills. This resulted in a varied workload, and an opportunity to support extensive development within the College. Through supporting the MD I worked on many projects that were significantly above my level but gave me a great opportunity to develop my skills.
